| Ki Wicasa Men's Program |
The Cangleska, Inc. Men’s Program has two offices, one in Kyle (eastern division) and one in Pine Ridge (western division).
The program is based on the “ Duluth” model which is based on the philosophy of power and control. Modifications to the program include information on Lakota values, culture, customs and practices. The power and control wheel graphic has been

changed to a triangle, reflecting a hierarchy of power since the circle graphic typically denotes harmony in Lakota culture. Ritual and cultural abuse have been added as tactics that are used to obtain and maintain power and control in a violent relationship.
The Cangleska, Inc. Men’s Program offers two (2) classes each week in Kyle for court-ordered and voluntary participants at the Kyle detention center. One class provides information on alcohol and other drugs and the other class offers the same program that is available to participants who are not currently incarcerated.
Classes in Pine Ridge are being held at the new Pine Ridge detention facility. Services for men at the Pine Ridge site include individual counseling, acupuncture, physical fitness and cultural awareness.
The individual counseling and acupuncture is available in both divisions. The inikaga (sweat lodge) is also used in the program.

The Men’s Program hosts an outdoor camp each summer in collaboration with the Cangleska, Inc. domestic violence probation department. Selected probationers participate in a ten (10) day camp in Yellow Bear Canyon, a beautiful and isolated area on the eastern side of the Reservation. |
 |
The camp, called Ki Wicasa (Return To Manhood), offers men an intensive opportunity relearn who they are as Lakota men.
The foundation for the camp is cultural mapping, an original concept developed by cultural trainer, Rosalie Little Thunder. Cultural mapping uses the Lakota language to examine options and solutions for contemporary life behaviors and problems. |
